US Pressure Urged on Coup Regime in Honduras

    It’s been a month since Honduran President Manuel Zelaya was deposed in a military coup. Negotiations on restoring democracy supported by the United States broke down when the coup regime refused to accept a compromise that would allow Zelaya to return.

    The Obama administration still says it is working for President Zelaya’s return, but so far it has not responded to the call from Hondurans for increased US pressure on the coup regime.

    Rejected by a majority of European citizens, transgenic crops have taken root only marginally in the Old Continent: 108,000 hectares in 2008 in seven EU countries, three-quarters of them in Spain. But they’ve made their way elsewhere.

    Last year, transgenic crops occupied 125 millions hectares in 25 countries, representing close to 8 percent of the planet’s cultivated surface.

Report: Immigration Detention Violated Standards

    Los Angeles – Immigrant advocates say the federal government has failed to meet its own standards for detaining immigrants, making it unduly difficult for immigrants to defend themselves in court and fight to remain in the country.

    A report released Tuesday says detainees face limited access to phones, mail and law libraries in violation of federal standards.
